China rescues cultural relics along "Silk Road"

In the coming five years the state will put in 420 million yuan to save and protect cultural relics along the "Silk Road" Xinjiang section.

As learned from a recent working conference on cultural relics in the northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the protection project had been approved by the State Council and would be kicked off this year. Implementation plans are being drafted.

There are as many as over 4,000 cultural relic sites in Xinjiang, including 41 under key state-level protection and 303 under region-level protection; there are 23 museums in Xinjiang, housing altogether 116,800 pieces of state-owned moveable cultural relics.
