The governor of a western Mexican state and several others were killed late Thursday in a plane crash, Mexican Interior Ministry officials said.
"We have been informed that Gustavo Alberto Vazquez, the governor of Colima state, was in a plane accident today," Interior Minister Santiago Creel told reporters. "I have been told, so far, that there are no survivors."
Creel refused to provide the exact number of passengers aboard the plane, but Mexican television reported that four passengers and two pilots were flying from Toluca to Colima when the light jet plane crashed in Michoacan state.
Vazquez, 42, of the Institutional Revolutionary Party, took office last year.
Creel said the cause of the crash was under investigation.
