Besides praying for the well-being of people in the tsunami-hit areas, China's religious communities have raised and donated large sums of money to those areas.

According to the state bureau of religious affairs, the Buddhist community has donated 11.72 million yuan (1.41 million US dollars) to the Red Cross Society of China and the China Charity Foundation.

Incomplete statistics of the bureau show the Taoist community has donated nearly 1 million yuan (120,480 dollars) of money. The Islamic, Catholic and Protestant Christian communities have donated several million yuan.

"China's religious communities have also held various services to pray for blessings to the tsunami-hit countries," said an official with the bureau.
