Ethiopian president calls for more Chinese aid

Ethiopian President Girma Woldegiorgis on Friday called on China to provide the Horn of African country with more assistance to help it reduce poverty in a short time.

The president made the call here when meeting with Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

The Ethiopian government has been implementing water harvesting, environmental and other development projects geared towards speeding up the poverty alleviation, Girma said.

He called on China to provide financial, technical and other relevant assistance in the ongoing development projects in Ethiopia.

During the talks, the two sides also exchanged views on the wayof further enhancing the cooperation between the two nations.

Wang left here on Friday afternoon after concluding his three-day official visit to Ethiopia, during which he also held talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.
