For the first time, China will send its women's sitting volleyball team to the upcoming Athens Paralympic Games slated for September 17 and 28, and aim for a medal.
It will also be the first time that China joins a team sport contest in Paralympic Games.
Although sitting volleyball is a very new sport in China and the national women's team was formed two years ago, the team grew up very quickly.
Soon after it was formed, the team won the fourth place in the world championship in 2002. In the following year, the team beat Japan, Mongolia and Holland in the qualification matches, securing a spot for the Athens Paralympic Games.
Members of the 12-strong team are mainly from Shanghai where sitting volleyball was firstly developed in China.
According to Le Rongrong, the coach of China's women Paralympic volleyball team, the Chinese people have pinned high hope for his team in the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games.
"We will try our best for the gold medal on our motherland by that time," he said.
