Desalination technology to be applied extensively in China
font size

A desalination treatment technology has been applied recently in Zhejiang Zhoushan. The vast and mighty sea is therefore hopefully to become an inexhaustible source of fresh water.

The reverse osmosis desalination demonstration project, which can treat 10,000 tons of sea water per day, was built by Hangzhou Development Center of Water Treatment of the State Oceanic Administration by utilizing membrane diffusion desalination technology. It employs energy-reclaiming equipment which increases the overall energy reclaiming rate to 94 percent and greatly reduces energy consumption.

According to the criterion of the Zhoushan Shengsi 10,000 ton reverse osmosis desalination demonstration project the cost of desalinating each ton of seawater has been reduced to around 5 yuan. It indicates that the cost of seawater desalination has approached the price of tap water and industrial water. China's desalination technology is to enter the extensive industrial and commercial application phase.
