CMC calls for deepening reforms in military postgraduate education
font size

The Central Military Commission (CMC) recently issued a notice to transmit the "Opinions on Deepening Reforms in Military Postgraduate Education so as to Keep Pace with the Military Changes with Chinese Characteristics" worked out by the General Staff Headquarters of the PLA, asking the whole army to push full-steam ahead with postgraduate education reforms and train a large number of high-caliber military personnel of new type in light of the requirements of building an information-based fighting force and being capable of winning informationized war.

With respect to the orientation of development of military postgraduate education reforms, the Opinions explicitly asked to readjust the strategic focus, making the fostering of the professional type of talents as the focus of postgraduate education, and gradually expand the educational scale and constantly increase quantity and realize the transference of training focus from the academic-type of talents to the professional-type of talents.

Priority should be given to educational quality and efficiency so as to realize the transference from the quantitative increase of disciplines to the qualitative growth of postgraduate education; new-type of talents fostering mode should be created so as to gradually realize transference from a comparably closed and singular talent fostering mode to open and multiple fostering mode.

In addition, the type of talents should be expanded to gradually form a new pattern of fostering the academic, professional and interdisciplinary type of talents simultaneously so as to meet the requirements for high-caliber military talents in our military modernization drive.
