To demonstrate glorious African culture to the Chinese people, the Ministry of Culture held the "Touch Africa" exhibition at the China National Gallery of Art in Beijing from May 14 to May 20.
The exhibition consists of three parts: the African Arts and Folklore Handicrafts Exhibition, the Memories of Africa Art Exhibition and the Snapshots of Africa Photographic Exhibition.
Exhibits from about 20 African countries including Nigeria, Congo, and Cameroon etc. are displayed at the Africa Arts and Folklore Handicrafts Exhibition. Viewers will see a wide variety of handicrafts, i.e. wooden sculptures, stone sculpture and paintings at the exhibition. About 200 photos, most of them taken by Chinese diplomats, are shown at the Snapshots of Africa Photographic Exhibition. The pictures are all about life of ordinary Africans. The Memories of Africa Art Exhibition features paints of Chinese painters, who had experience living or working in Africa.
It is hoped that the exhibition can promote mutual understanding and friendship between Chinese and African people.
