    Indian Congress party wins general election

    George Fernandes (L), convenor of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), reveals in New Delhi May 13, 2004 that Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will formally tender his resignation to President A P J Abdul Kalam after a cabinet meeting Thursday. The opposition Congress party defeated the ruling NDA in the general elections.

    Hainan: Super-hybrid rice unit output topping 800 kg

    Chen Changping, a farmer from the Tianduzhen Village of Sanya City of south China's Hainan Province, harvests rice at the experimental field of hybrid rice developed by Professor Yuan Longping, the country's most noted rice expert.

    Oil tanks leak in Yunnan Province

    Education highlighted among Mexican youth

    Mexican young people study in the Trede Library in Mexico City May 12, 2004. Favored by young Mexicans, the library lends English books to readers free of charge. There are about 30 million youths in Mexico, accounting for one third of the population. A large number of young Mexicans turn to reading books, newspapers and journals, surfing the Internet and receiving multimedia education in a bid to improve themselves.
