China's youth league boasts over 71 mln members

By the end of 2003, China has 71.07 million members of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC), the highest in history.

The CYLC has 203,000 league committees, 230,000 general branches and 2.55 million branches at grass- root level in the country. The number of League cadres stands at 188,000.

The number of student League members stands at 34.11 million, accounting for 47 percent of the total. There are 52,000 League committees, 67,000 general branches and 870,000 branches in all the schools and institutions throughout the country.

In the industrial sectors, the number of League members stands at 6.26 million, with 34,000 League committees, 36,000 general branches and 300,000 branches.

In the agricultural sectors, the number of League members stands at 21.18 million, with 51,000 League committees, 70,000 general branches and 890,000 branches.

In the service sectors, the number of League members stands at 9.52 million, with 66,000 League committees, 57,000 general branches and 490,000 branches.
