font size

The South African embassy in Beijing held a ceremony in China World Hotel Thursday evening to celebrate ten years of freedom for South Africa.

On April 27, 1994, South Africans from all walks of life stood side by side, casting their votes, with the majority of them voting for the first time in their lives for a non-racial, non-sexist and a democratic government, said Muziwakhe Themba Kubheka,South African ambassador to China, while addressing the ceremony.

This was the day South Africa obtained its freedom and democracy, and the day signified the end of the evil system of apartheid, he said. South Africa has made formidable progress in creating a better life for all its citizens since then.

Nearly 1,000 people attended the ceremony.
