Albania, US start joint military exercises

The biggest Albanian-American military exercises, code-named "Adriatic Phiblex 04-5," began Monday in Albania, the ATA news agency reported.

The biggest Albanian-American military exercises, code-named "Adriatic Phiblex 04-5," began Monday in Albania, the ATA news agency reported.

About 2000 American troops backed by ships, tanks, aircraft, helicopters and armored vehicles, and the Albanian troops from theland, sea and air forces, as well as units of the Military Police took part in the exercises, the military sources said.

The exercises are aimed to train the expeditionary fighting capability of US troops and establish close cooperation between the Albanian and US armed forces in military planning, logistic support and guidance of joint operations, the sources said.

The exercises, the second of its kind in Albania, will continuetill Saturday.
