2 Japanese arrested in Manila for suspicious drugs

The Philippine anti-drug operativesMonday arrested two Japanese nationals at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport after assorted tablets and capsules suspected to be illegal pills were found in their possession, police said Wednesday.

According to police reports, the two Japanese, identified as Jonalle Fukami and Yasuro Matsubara, were arrested in a departing checkpoint inside the airport on Monday.

In a statement, Anselmo Avenido, Director General of PhilippineDrug Enforcement Agency, said the suspects were frisked at the final check area when around 588 assorted tablets and capsules suspected to be Bangkok Pills were found in their possession.

Fukami and Matsubara were supposed to be bound for Osaka, Japanvia Thai Airways flight when they were arrested, the statement said.

Avenido said, a case for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, will be filed against the two Japanese if they were found guilty.

The confiscated pills where brought to National Police Crime Laboratory for examination and the two suspects were detained inside the police headquarters Camp Crame for filing appropriate charges against them.
