Pakistani authorities in southwestern Balochistan province arrested on Jan. 24 a former Taliban governor in a border town, a Pakistani official said.
Mullah Abdul Manan was arrested by Pakistani law enforcement agencies outside his residence on the Mall Road in Chaman, a small town bordering Afghanistan, said Colonel Basit, head of Pakistani border security, according to News Network of International, an independent news agency.
Manan was governor of Sar-e-Pol province and then Badghis province during the hardline Taliban regime which was toppled during the US-led anti-terror war launched after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.
Mannan was shifted to undisclosed location for questioning. It was said that he was planning to cross into Afghanistan when he was captured.
