Hospital fire in Wuhan kills at least five people

A major fire broke out in a hospital in Wuhan city of Hubei province early morning Thursday, killing atlease five people, according to local police.

A major fire broke out in a hospital in Wuhan city of Hubei province early morning Thursday, killing atlease five people, according to local police.

The fire broke out in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of Wuhan Shangzhi Hospital at 5:00 am on Thursday.

Four patients in critical conditions were transferred to the Wuhan No. 2 Hospital, but have not been saved, and one people jumped to death when the hospital building was on fire, local police said.

The casualty could be more as one witness said that he saw three persons jumped from windows of the building and died instantly.

The Wuhan Fire Department sent out 27 pumpers to site at 5:30 and put out the fire in 40 minutes.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
