Sales of software, system integration products to hit 210b yuan in 2004

The sales of software and information system products is forecast to reach 210 billion yuan (some 25.3 billion US dollars) in 2004, a year-on-year increase of 30 percent, according to the Ministry of Information Industry.

The sales of software and information system products is forecast to reach 210 billion yuan (some 25.3 billion US dollars) in 2004, a year-on-year increase of 30 percent, according to the Ministry of Information Industry.

Statistics from the ministry showed that the sales hit 160 billion yuan (some 19.3 billion US dollars) in 2003, up 45 percent year on year, making an annual increase of 36 percent from 2000 to 2003.

The research and development of software and system integrationhas made rapid development in the past years. China now boasts 8,582 software enterprises, with 18,000 kinds of products and has also set up six software bases including in Beijing and Shanghai.

China's software export rose to 1.8 billion US dollars in 2003,4.5 times that of 2000.

China will continue to grant preferential policies for the development of the software industry regarding skilled people, technology, capital, tax, equipment, and intellectual property protection, according to the ministry.
