The Tonga Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China was founded Sunday in the country's capital of Nukualofa.

The Tonga Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China was founded Sunday in the country's capital of Nukualofa.

At the founding meeting, Chinese Ambassador to Tonga Gao Shanhai expounded China's principle and stance on Taiwan, saying the founding of the Council was an important move of the overseas Chinese in Tonga in joining the "anti-Taiwan independence, promotion of reunification" activities of the global overseas Chinese.

About 150 delegates, including overseas Chinese representatives,representatives from the China-funded agencies in Tonga, and Chinese experts and engineers working in the country, attended thefounding meeting.

The China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification, Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs of the State Council, the councils for the promotion of peaceful unification of China in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Argentina sent congratulatory telegrams to the meeting.

At the founding meeting, the Council's President Yu Zhuhua stressed that there is only one China in the world, saying the overseas Chinese firmly oppose any activities of the Taiwan authority aimed at separating Taiwan from China and firmly supportan early peaceful reunification of China under the one-China principle.
