People's Daily publishes an editorial on Monday, Jan. 19, calling for the establishment of a long-term effective mechanism for industrial safety.

People's Daily publishes an editorial on Monday, Jan. 19, calling for the establishment of a long-term effective mechanism for industrial safety.

The State Council has for the first time sponsored a national conference on the work of industrial safety, the editorial says, referring to a meeting held on Jan. 17-18 and participated in by officials in charge of the issue from central and provincial governments and leading industrial enterprises around China.

The meeting, at which the participants heard a State Council resolution on further strengthening the work of industrial safety, further highlighted the crucial status and role of the work of industrial safety, it says.

Acknowledging that industrial safety is connected with the safety of people's lives and property as well as the overall situation of reform, development and stability, the editorial says that the work of industrial safety is the basic requirement of industrial enterprises for existence and development and an integral part of the implementation for sustained-growth strategy.

To carry out safety production and effect industrial safety in enterprises, notes the editorial, all-round responsibility mechanism of the enterprises, involvement of the workers and extensive support from society at large are needed.

Moreover, the editorial emphasizes that the key to implementing the essence of the meeting relies on Communist Party of China (CPC) committees and governments of all levels as well as the officials. It urges them to be fully aware of the importance of the issue.
