Plane carrying nine people crashes in US

A single-engine plane with nine people aboard crashed in snowy weather Saturday in the north-central US state of Ohio.

A single-engine plane with nine people aboard crashed in snowy weather Saturday in the north-central US state of Ohio.

The plane crashed soon after taking off from an island in Lake Erie, press reports quoted the US Coast Guard as saying.

A helicopter found the wreckage of plane but there were no signs of life, the reports said.

The plane, which belonged to the Georgian Airways, was flying from Detroit, Michigan, across the border for Windsor of Ontario, Canada, and crashed about 30 km north of Sandusky, Ohio.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known.
