British woman Fiona Thornewill has set a new record in the time she took to complete an unaided solo trek to the South Pole.

The 37-year-old Thornewill walked 700 miles (1,127 kilometers) in 42 days before arriving at the pole on January 10.

Her team said on Sunday that her time has beat the previous mark of 44 days for an unaided individual or team walking or skiing.

She also became the first British woman to walk solo and unaided to the South Pole.

The first woman to finish the solo and unaided trek was Norwegian Liv Arnesen who took 50 days in 1994.
