International Olympic Committee vice president Kim Un-yong has resigned as national lawmaker and world taekwondo chief in a bribery scandal.

Kim has been questioned by South Korean prosecutors about allegations he collected illicit money from former South Korean Olympic officials and embezzled funds from taekwondo organizations.

On Friday, Kim said he was quitting as head of the World Taekwondo Federation, which he has headed for three decades.

But he did not say whether he is also resigning as vice president of the International Olympic Committee.

Prosecutors in South Korea are seeking an arrest warrant for the 72-year-old legislator on suspicions of accepting over 419,000 US dollars from businessmen in exchange for his promise to get them membership in the Korean Olympic Committee.

Kim Un-yong is also suspected of embezzling funds from the World Taekwondo Federation.
