Chinese softball aims for renaissance in Athens
China's sport authorities have invited a foreign head coach to direct its women's national softball team, in hope of reaching the top 3 at the Athens' Olympics this year.
China's sport authorities have invited a foreign head coach to direct its women's national softball team, in hope of reaching the top 3 at the Athens' Olympics this year.
The team claimed the runner-up position at the Atlanta Games and ranked 4th in Sydney, but have failed to reach the same level in recent years due to vacancies left by retiring veterans.
Officials from China contacted the former coach of the Canadian national team, and expect negotiations to be soon underway.
At the same time, 30 women softball players have started winter training in southwest China's Sichuan Province. Eight of them will be cut from the team by the end of March.
