China sees record forex trade in 2003

China's inter-bank foreign exchange transactions volume hit a record 151.1 billion US dollars in 2003, the Shanghai-based China Foreign Exchange Center announced on Friday.

China's inter-bank foreign exchange transactions volume hit a record 151.1 billion US dollars in 2003, the Shanghai-based China Foreign Exchange Center announced on Friday.

The daily forex trade volume reached 600 million US dollars last year, up 54 percent over the daily trade volume the previous year.

The total forex trade volume included 147.7 billion US dollars,18.6 billion HK dollars, 76.1 billion Japanese yen and 300 millioneuros, representing increases of 54 percent, 70 percent, 3 percentand 175 percent over the figures for 2002.

By the end of 2003, there were 344 of forex trade dealers at the China Foreign Exchange Center, 21 more than at the end of the previous year.
