Governments at all levels should spare no efforts to solve difficulties in people's lives and work, says a senior Chinese leader.

In his inspection tour of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region between Dec.26 and 31, Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), urged governments at all levels to raise farmers' incomes and ensure grain production capability.

Jia, also a member of the Political Bureau Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee, visited people in Chifeng City of Inner Mongolia which was hit by an earthquake in August.

Talking with the earthquake victims, Jia asked whether they had enough food, clothes and quilts for the winter and was told that they had been supplied by the government. He encouraged local people to conquer difficulties and return to normal production as soon as possible.

More efforts should be made to enhance the region's capability of fighting against natural disasters, said Jia.

Jia asked local government officials to put more emphasis on environmental protection and strive to realize social and economic development in a sustainable way.

Jia also urged local governments to ensure adequate supplies during the New Year and the Spring Festival holidays for local people.
