Bush believes Saddam's capture 'very good news': White HouseUS President George W. Bush believed the capture of the ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was good for the Iraqi people, White House press secretary Scott McClellan said on Sunday.
"The president believes this is very good news for the Iraqi people," he said, and "the Iraqi people can finally be assured that Saddam Hussein will not be coming back - they can see it for themselves."
Bush was said to be "very happy" at the news of Saddam's capture and is scheduled to address the nation at 12:00 p.m. (1700GMT), the White House said.
US national security adviser Condoleezza Rice told Bush of the confirmed news shortly after 5:00 a.m., but Bush was informed of the initial belief of the capture Saturday afternoon while he was at the presidential retreat of Camp David, a senior White House official told reporters.
Bush was at Camp David when Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld telephoned around mid-day on Saturday to deliver the news of the possible capture of Saddam. Bush is said to have replied: "That is good news."
