Noted Uygur leader Seypidin Azizi dies

Seypidin Azizi, a noted Chinese leader from Uygur ethnic group, died of illness at 6:05 am Monday. He was 88.

An official circular announcing his death called him an excellent member of the Communist Party of China (CPC), a faithful communist fighter, a Party and state leader for ethnic minority affairs, an outstanding statesman, and an excellent son of the Uygur people.

He was an alternate member of the Political Bureau of the 10th and 11th CPC Central Committee, a vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th National People's Congress and a vice chairman of the 8th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
