HK District Council Election

Sunday is the polling day for Hong Kong's District Council elections. A total of 423 polling stations across Hong Kong are open from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. for about 2.4 million electors to cast their vote. 

New buildings dedicated to Ba Jin

This photo taken on Nov. 21 shows the newly-built Ba Jin literary institute in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province. A bronze statue of Ba Jin, one of the greatest modern Chinese writers was unveiled on Friday. The 2.5-meter-tall statue cast with two tons of bronze costs more than 400,000 yuan (48,000 US dollars). It is the largest sitting bronze statue of Ba Jin ever built in China.

French warship visits south China port (2)

French light frigate Prairial captain Patrick Macary receives flowers from a Chinese girl at Zhanjiang Port in south China's Guangdong Province, Nov. 22, 2003. The vessel is launching a five-day goodwill visit to China. It is the first time for French warship to visit the port which was open for the first time to two US guided-missile ships in September this year.  

Ba Jin Century Show

Tens of thousands of people have visited the show since it opened on Sept. 26. Born into a wealthy family in Chengdu on Nov. 25, 1904, Ba Jin is one of the founders of modern and contemporary Chinese literature and is renowned for his prolific works and masterpieces like the trilogy "Family", "Spring" and "Autumn".

The No.1 generator at the Three Gorges Project on the Yangtze River was connected to the power grid and began commercial operation Saturday morning.

Illegal hunting guns destroyed

The department confiscated more than 2,000 such kind of guns in the past year. The aim of the action is to protect wildlife in the forests of the province.

Humidifiers sale in North China

Humidifiers are sold at a department store in Hunlunbuir, in North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Extreme cold and dry weather in winter here have pushed many to buy the small appliances that keep moderate humidity at home.

Hu Jintao stresses need to maintain stability, law, order

Chinese President Hu Jintao (C) meets some police officers attending a national meeting on public security. Hu called on the country's public security departments to improve social stability and law and order during the discussion with those representatives. Among those attending the discussion were Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, Vice-President Zeng Qinghong, and other senior Communist Party leaders.
