According to the news from CCTV, National Statistics Bureau of China, National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Finance have recently issued a joint notice to make thorough adjustment as to the items and periodic arrangement in the general survey nationwide. The former general surveys of industry, tertiary industry and basic units will be merged into general survey of economy.

In the future, China will carry out the unified "general survey of economy", an amalgamation of the surveys for tertiary industry, industry and basic units with building industry to be included into it too. The first general survey of economy will be implemented in 2004, while that for the tertiary industry as planned to take place this year will be merged into that of next year.

The targets of the general survey, mainly cover those enterprises, institutions, social organizations and private businesses in order to get to know the changes and development of the secondary and tertiary industries. Surveys of suchlike will be carried out twice every 10 years, respectively in the years of 2xx3 and 2xx8. Persons in charge express that wider ranges will be covered with the information to be updated faster and a closer connection to be established with the formulation of the national Five-year Plan after the adjustment of general survey. China's former national general surveys consist of the five items as nationwide census, general surveys of agriculture, industry, tertiary industry and basic units. In the future, the general survey of agriculture will be exercised alone once every ten years, which is to take place in 2xx6 instead of 2007 and no changes to be made in the nationwide census.
