Chinese Vice-Premier Huang Ju met in Beijing Wednesday with Craig Barrett, chief executive officer of Intel Corp.

Huang welcomed Intel to invest in China's western areas, notingthat China's economy has developed soundly since the reform and opening-up, and investment environment has been improving.

China encourages transnational companies to invest in China's central and western areas in the fields of agriculture, manufacture and high-tech industry, he said.

Barrett said Intel will expand its business in China and promote the cooperation with the country's information sector. Intel will make its own efforts in China's west development program.
