China's Top Legislator Meets Ecuadorian President
China and Ecuador have many common interests on the issues of peace and development, and both countries bear the common tasks of constructing their own country and improving their people's lives, said Wu Bangguo, China's top legislator, when meeting President Lucio Gutierrez Borbua of the Republic of Ecuador Wednesday in Beijing.

Wu, chairman of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, said that the Chinese and Ecuadorian peoples have a long history of friendly exchanges, especially since the establishment of diplomatic ties, and have enjoyed constantly expanding progress has been made in bilateral political relations, economy and trade, science and technology, culture and other fields. The results of the talks between Chinese President Hu Jintao and President Gutierrez set a solid basis for consolidating and developing bilateral relations, he noted.
He expressed appreciation for the Ecuadorian government's adherence to the "one-China" policy and its support for China on human rights and other issues.
He pointed out that the two countries can engage in various forms of mutually-beneficial cooperation in energy, telecommunications and other fields.
He stressed that the friendly exchanges and cooperation between the NPC and the Ecuadorian parliament are an important component of bilateral relations, adding that the NPC is willing to work together with the Ecuadorian side to promote the friendly cooperative relations between the two countries.
Gutierrez said that China's rapid development is very impressive, and the Chinese mode of development is a good example for Ecuador. He said that the Ecuadorian government welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest in Ecuador and various kinds of cooperation.
He reiterated that Ecuador adheres to the "one-China" policy, and expressed appreciation for China's successful practice of the policy of "one country, two systems."
