Democratic People's Republic of Korea(DPRK) said a gun shot at a South Korean guard post inside the demilitarized zone (DMZ) earlier Wednesday is an accidental firing, according to South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).
The shot did not cause casualties in the South Korean side in the buffer area between the two countries. And the DPRK military authorities called their ROK counterparts 80 minutes after the incident, saying it was an "accidental firing" and had no "hostile" intentions.
South Korean soldiers who were in the guard post near Goseong, some 200 kilometers northeast of Seoul in Gangwon Province, did not return fire, said the JCS.
Last month, South Korean and the DPRK soldiers briefly exchanged machine gun fire across the border, with no casualties reported.
