Death Toll Rises to 20 in Fireworks Explosion in E. China

Five more bodies were found Wednesday morning at a fireworks explosion site in Minhou County in east China's Fujian Province, raising the total death toll to 20.

Five more bodies were found Wednesday morning at a fireworks explosion site in Minhou County in east China's Fujian Province, raising the total death toll to 20.

The explosion occurred at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday at a shabby wooden house located in Shadi Village of Shangjie Township, which was used to store a large amount of fireworks, according to local villagers.

The blast affected an area of 1,000 square meters, leaving a pit 20 meters in diameter and two meters deep, and destroying five houses and damaging 20 others. The windows of all the buildings within several hundreds square meters were shattered.
