Kagame Claims Victory in Rwandan Presidential Election

Rwandan incumbent President Paul Kagame claimed victory early Tuesday in Rwanda's presidential poll,the first in the central African country since the 1994 genocide.

Kagame Wins Rwandan Presidential Election
Rwandan incumbent President Paul Kagame claimed victory early Tuesday in Rwanda's presidential poll,the first in the central African country since the 1994 genocide.

Kagame has led in the election by securing 94.3 percent of the counted votes from Monday's voting, according to the electoral commission on Tuesday.

Provisional results from 51 out of Rwanda's 106 districts showed Kagame's main opponent Faustin Twagiramungu garnered only 3.5 percent of votes counted, with a third candidate, former minister Jean-Nepomuscene Nayinzira, winning 1.19 percent.
