Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), met Monday with a delegation from the National Assembly of Mauritius led by Speaker Premnath Ramnah.

Wu said that China and Mauritius have had a history of friendship over the past more than 30 years since the two countries established diplomatic ties. He added that the bilateralrelationship has developed smoothly, with economic, trade, cultural and other areas of friendly cooperation expanding constantly.

He said that the two sides enjoy broad common views on international issues. The Chinese side appreciates the Mauritian government's persistent stance of upholding the "one-China" policyand of having no official relations with Taiwan Province. China iswilling to cooperate with Mauritius in political, economic, cultural and other fields.

Wu spoke highly of Sino-African relations, saying that the friendly cooperative relationship between China and Africa has endured the test of time and changes in the international situation. China's new leadership pays great attention -- as always -- to its unity and cooperation with African countries. In the current international situation, the two sides should make joint efforts to further consolidate Sino-African relations.

He noted that the NPC always attaches importance to the development of relations with the National Assembly of Mauritius. Exchanges between the two legislative institutions is conducive topromoting mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples as well as the overall development of bilateral relations,Wu added.

Ramnah said that the two peoples have a profound friendship, and always sympathize with and support each other. Evidence of Mauritian-Chinese friendship can be seen everywhere in Mauritius, he remarked. Chinese citizens working in Mauritius are diligent and abide by local laws, contributing significantly to Mauritian-Chinese friendship, he said.

Ramnah assured his host that the Mauritian National Assembly and the government will make continued efforts to consolidate the friendship between the two countries.
