Part of Yinchuan-Qingdao Freeway Completed

The 166-km section of the Yinchuan-Qingdao freeway inside the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region,northwest China, was finished and opened to traffic Saturday.

The 166-km section of the Yinchuan-Qingdao freeway inside the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region,northwest China, was finished and opened to traffic Saturday.

The freeway, which begins in the capital of Ningxia and ends atQingdao, a port city in east China's Shandong Province, will extend 1,598 km. It will traverse Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Hebei and Shandong provinces.

Completion of the freeway will connect the coalfield in easternNingxia, the Changqing oil and gas field in Shaanxi and the coalfield in Shanxi with the eastern coast. It is of great significance for advancing the economic development and opening-upof western China, said an official from the regional bureau of communications.

According to the official, the whole freeway, apart from the 300-km section in Shaanxi, which is still under construction, has been completed.
