The Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) killed 31 Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels and rescued over 500 civilians last week, reported Radio Uganda on Thursday night.

UPDF spokesman Shaban Bantariza was quoted as saying that the government army has also captured over 35 rifles and four landmines during the week.

The spokesman commended the Teso and Lango arrow groups in the eastern and northern Uganda for their support in the fight against the LRA rebels.

He unveiled that the groups have so far provided important intelligence information to the army that has led to several successes in the fight against the rebels.

Meanwhile, President Yoweri Museveni has reassured the people in eastern Uganda that the LRA rebels will be flushed out and eliminated from northern and eastern regions in a short time, according to government media reported here on Thursday.
