Macao Wins Host City Contract of 2nd Asian Indoor Games

Macao on Wednesday signed the host city contract with the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for the Second Asian Indoor Games slated for 2007.

Macao on Wednesday signed the host city contract with the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for the Second Asian Indoor Games slated for 2007.

On behalf of the President of OCA, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, Timothy Fok, Vice President of the East Asian Zone of OCA congratulated Macao to seal the contract.

He said that the Asian Indoor Games is OCA's latest addition, which is aiming at creating additional multisport events to encourage youths of Asia to take part in a greater variety of sports. The biennial event will include at least six indoor sportswhich are not included in the Asian Games, but are recognized by OCA.

Wei Jizhong, chairman of the OCA Sports Committee, said that under Macao's preparation for the 4th East Asian Games in 2005, the city will boast sufficient modern sports facilities to organize a comprehensive sport event.

He suggested Macao to take the next few years to develop the sports items inscribed in the Asian Indoor Games, which feature widely popular sports practiced by youths, such as aerobics, cycling and extreme sports of climbing and skateboarding. Besides intriguing public attentions, the sports items favored by TV broadcasting media are expected to yield high commercial value.
