Two Traffic Accidents Kill 17 in Northwest China

Two traffic accidents in northwest China's Gansu province Monday killed 17 people and left more than 40 others injured.

Two traffic accidents in northwest China's Gansu province Monday killed 17 people and left more than 40 others injured.

A bus traveling on a state highway from Lintao county to provincial capital Lanzhou with 36 passengers on board plunged into a valley near the Qidaoliang tunnel around noon Monday. Six passengers died on the scene while the other 30 were sent to hospital by local traffic police.

In Anyuan town of Tianzhu county, a truck from Shandong province in the country's east collided with a bus at 7:15 p.m., leaving 11 passengers dead and 12 seriously injured.

Local traffic police are investigating the two accidents.
