In a speech to a recent seminar on edible fungus, Mark Wach, president of the International Society for Mushroom Science, said that China's exports of edible fungus accounted for 80 percent of that for Asia, and 40 percent of the global edible fungus trade.
China's edible fungus is exported to about 119 countries and regions, including 6,648 tons of dried fragrant mushrooms and 7,767 tons of Jew's-ear mushrooms, worth 41.5 million US dollars and25 million US dollars, respectively.
The edible fungus sector employs a total of 20 million Chinese farmers, official figures show.
