31 Teams to Compete in Women's Beach Volleyball World Tour in Bali

At least 31 teams from 18 countries and regions had confirmed they would participate in the Swatch Women's Beach Volleyball World Tour in Bali on August 22-24,the daily of Kompas reported Saturday.

At least 31 teams from 18 countries and regions had confirmed they would participate in the Swatch Women's Beach Volleyball World Tour in Bali on August 22-24,the daily of Kompas reported Saturday.

Cahya Aziz, the tournament director, was quoted by the newspaper as saying that seven countries decided not to send their athletes following the Marriott Hotel bombing on August 5, which killed 12 people.

Countries which canceled their participation are the United States, Brazil, Canada, Spain, Greece, South Africa and Italy, he said.

Aziz said the organizers still open the registration for other countries and regions to participate in the international event until August 18.

Siti Nurjanah/Ni Putu Timy Yudhani, Niniek Nuraidah/Minarni andEngel Berta Kaize/Agustina Sinerei from Indonesia will be among the 31 teams taking part in the competition.

The Bali Open is one of 12 Volleyball World Tour Series, which provide qualifying points for the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece.

The Bali tournament provides total cash prizes of 150,000 US dollars.
