More than 20 Chinese leading economists gathered Monday in Beijing, offering their suggestions for the World Economy Development Declaration (WEDD).

The declaration will be the first world declaration proposed by China, proposing the creation of new economic order featuring mutual trust, mutual benefit, interaction and mutual assistance, said Xiao Lian, a noted Chinese economist and chair of the American Economy Study Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS).

The declaration has indicated China's strong will to further integrate into the world economy after its accession to World Trade Organization (WTO), Xiao noted.

The draft has been proposed and revised by six Noble Economy prize winners and six Chinese economists, according to the organization committee.

Hu Angang, a prestigious Chinese economist, suggested that the declaration should have its emphasis on "eliminating poverty and creating a better world".

He acknowledged that the goal for international development in the 21st century is to create a world without poverty.

China has contributed tremendously to the world in this aspect in the past 20-plus years, and will continue its effort of reducing poverty in the coming 15 to 20 years, Hu said.

The declaration should promote developing countries, and seek co-existence with developed countries as well, said Jing Xuecheng, vice president of the China International Economic Relations Association.

Wang Maolin, vice-chairman of the Law Committee of the National People's Congress, said the declaration should pass on the views of developing countries, calling for developed countries to use science and technology to help eliminate poverty.

The WEDD conference is scheduled to be held in early November in Zhuhai, a southern coastal city.
