The soul of the late Hyundai Asan Chairman Chung Mong-hun found its final resting place Monday on the slopes of DPRK's Mount Geumgang, just as the ill-fated businessman had wished for in his suicide note.
Company officials said some 700 people from DPRK and South Korea attended the ceremony including Chung's bereaved family members, Hyundai officials, and about 100 DPRK people involved in business dealings with Hyundai.
The service was held in accordance with Chung's will contained in his final notes that his ashes be scattered on Mt. Geumgang. Due to objections from his family regarding his cremation, however, only Chung's hair and nails will be buried in the picturesque mountain.
Chung's family members and Hyundai Asan officials arrived in Mt. Geumgang Monday morning.
Attendants will include Rep. Chung Mong-joon, Chung's younger brother and the largest shareholder of Hyundai Heavy Industries.
Chung, who was the driving force behind a number of major inter-Korean projects over the past 15 years, jumped to his death from his 12th-floor office in Seoul a week ago, sparking debate over what was behind his death.
