China's tourism industry will implement a global promotion, with the slogan "China forever", said He Guangwei, director of China National Tourism Administration (CNTA).

At the Special Meeting of ASEAN and China, Japan, and Republic of Korea (ROK) Tourism Ministers held here Saturday, He said that China is trying to revitalize the tourism market and CNTA has formulated strategies to rebuild inbound, domestic and outbound tourism with good service quality and tourist conditions.

Promotional campaigns will be carried by key foreign media to rebuild China's image as a healthy and safe destination. China will also focus on neighboring markets and strengthen cooperation with tour operators and airlines in joint promotions.

The theme for the industry next year would be "Catch the Lifestyle 2004". China will also launch annual promotional campaigns for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and highlight the theme "Olympics for Tourism".

In the first half of this year, China's GDP grew by 8.2 percent, foreign investment increased by 34 percent to 30.3 billion US dollars, foreign exchange reserves soared to 340 billion US dollars, ranking second in the world. This shows the world is still confident in China, and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) does not slow down China's social or economic development, the director said.

The World Tourism Organization (WTO) has announced that it remains optimistic about the prospects for China's tourism industry, despite the losses caused by SARS.

The forecast that China will be the biggest tourist destination and fourth country with the largest number of outbound tourists by 2020 remains unchanged.
