Senior Chinese Official Meets Australian Guests
Liu Yandong, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, met here Friday with the delegation of Australian Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China (ACPPRC), headed by its president, Chiu William.

Liu, also head of the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), thanked the ACPPRC for its assistance with the "Eyes on Tibet" program.
Eyes on Tibet, organized by the ACPPRC, provided free treatmentfor cataract patients in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.Twenty-three Australian ophthalmologists and nurses went to Tibet on Aug. 3 to treat cataract patients. The ACPPRC also donated medical equipment.
She said the ACPPRC had contributed to the promotion of the peaceful reunification of China, and to exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese and Australian peoples.
Liu spoke highly of the Conference on Opposing Taiwan's Independence and Promoting China's Peaceful Reunification held in Sydney last year.
She hoped overseas Chinese would contribute more to China's development and reunification.
