China's first professional field for test driving sedans began operation in a Shanghai suburb Friday.
The 144-sq-km field, built by the Shanghai Volkswagen Corporation with an investment totaling 1.2 billion yuan (about 145 million U.S. dollars), was considered a landmark of the nation's auto industry.
The field was constructed in line with international standards and with the experiences of Volkswagen and Audi. It can record data on a car's operation in various road conditions.
Engineers can get statistics on the service duration of a sedanand exchange the data with other test-drive fields in Germany, according to officials from the Shanghai Volkswagen Corporation.
