US battle group arrives in HK

US battle group led by aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson arrived on August 6, 2003 in Hong Kong for a six-day port call. US consulate spokeswoman Susan Stevenson said the port call was approved by China's central government. It is the first port call by US Navy vessels to HK since the SARS epidemic.

China Fujian Artificial Precipitation

Nanning and Wuzhou Highway Opens to Traffic

The 153.8-kilometer highway also forms a part of the expressway between Nanning, capital of Guangxi, and Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province.

Ten Chinese Nurses Awarded Florence Nightingale Medals

Ten Chinese nurses who made great contributions to China's medical cause were awarded Florence Nightingale medals Tuesday in Beijing by Chinese President Hu Jintao at a ceremony of the 39th Florence Nightingale Medal.  

Chlorine Gas Leak Poisons 59

A nurse administers emergency treatment to patients exposed to a chlorine gas leak early Wednesday at a paper mill in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi Province. The accident poisoned 59 nearby residents, all of whom -- including one in serious condition -- were taken to hospitals. The leak was produced by a discarded chlorine cylinder by the Tangdu Paper Mill in Sanqiao Town of Xi'an.

Shoe Exhibition in Beijing

China Launches Legal Aid Service for Public
