One of two persons buried in a building that collapsed Monday in a south China town has been found dead and rescuers are searching for the other, police said Tuesday.

Six buildings caved in because of geological reasons at about 10:25 Monday in Chuncheng Town of Yangchun City in Guangdong Province. Two of the buildings sank six meters below ground and collapsed in the upper part, trapping a 70-year-old paralytic man and a 31-year-old woman, a mental patient, in the ruins.

At about 5 a.m. Tuesday, the old man was dug out but had been dead, and rescuers are busying looking for the woman, the police said.
