Vice-Premier Huang Ju concluded an inspection tour Saturday of north China's Shanxi province, which was badly affected by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) disease from April to June, and urged the local government to keepup their SARS-fighting spirit and spare no means to deal with the issue of employment.

During his tour from July 31-Aug. 2, Vice-Premier Huang inspected a number of state-owned enterprises in the mining, iron and steel, and machine tools and heavy machinery industries and communities.

In his talks with local officials, miners, front-line workers and unemployed people, the vice premier, who is a member of the Standing Committee ofthe Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, called for assiduous study and implementation of the essence of the just-concluded national working conference on SARS control and for giving top priority to the work of employment and re-employment.

Vice-Premier Huang praised the provincial government and provincial CPC committee for their fruitful efforts in fighting the SARS epidemic, developing the economy and promoting the work of employment.

The efforts to promote employment and reemployment should be combined with reform, development and industrial restructuring, hesaid.

The crux of the matter is to create more job opportunities and train the laid off workers, Huang said.
