The Chinese PC market showed a sluggish growth rate in the second quarter, with a 6.9 percent increase during the period, according to CCID Consulting, an IT analysis company based in Beijing.
The CCID said on Tuesday that PC sales in the second quarter stood at 2.44 million units, with a total value of 18.2 billion yuan (2.2 billion US dollars), up 2.6 percent from the same periodlast year.
According to CCID's quarterly report released on Tuesday, PC prices fell further in the second quarter, notebook computers in particular, because of fiercer competition, and therefore profit margins for PC makers reduced further.
The outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) also contributed to slow growth as PC sales dropped in major cities, though the rate of decline varied.
But the CCID said the epidemic will not severely affect the market in terms of the whole year because the purchasing power of consumers which had been limited during the SARS outbreak will regain momentum in the second half of the year.
