China Will Assist Nauru in Founding Embassy in China

China will offer assistance to the Nauru government in officially founding an embassy in the country, Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said Friday.
Kong made the remark in response to a question regarding a report that Nauru had closed its embassy in China in an effort to establish diplomatic ties with Taiwan.
Kong said China officially established diplomatic ties with Nauru in July 2002.
"According to the Communique on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations, the two countries agreed to set up embassies in each other's country," he said. "China set up its embassy in Nauru last September and appointed an ambassador."
Bilateral ties between China and Nauru, Kong added, have maintained a good momentum of development since they were formallyestablished.
"The government of Nauru has on many occasions noted that it will appoint an ambassador, a Nauru citizen, to China and officially set up its embassy in due course," he said.
"China will assist and facilitate the founding of the embassy in accordance with the Communique on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations," the spokesman said.
